The work, effort and achieved results of the Optical Networking Area and its memebers has been awarded with the following distinctions:
- Josep M. Fabrega obtained in 2011 a Torres Quevedo Research Grant from the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation with the reference PTQ-11-04805.
- Ricard Vilalta has been granted with the Best Student Paper Award at the IEEE International Conference on High Performance Switching and Routing (HPSR) 2011 for the paper co-authored with Raul Muñoz, Ramon Casellas and Ricardo Martinez entitled Design and performance evaluation of a GMPLS-enabled MPLS-TP/PWE3 node with integrated 10Gbps tunable DWDM transponders.
- Josep M. Fabrega obtained the Best student research prize awarded by the Euro-FOS network of excellence in 2010 and competing with graduates from 17 european universities and research centers.
- The KDDI R&D Labs and CTTC joint paper Study on GMPLS-controlled Translucent WSON using OSNR-based IA-RWA algorithms presented at the IEICE Technical Committee on Photonic Network (June 2009) was awarded with the Research award of IEICE Technical Committee on Photonic Network in March 2010.
- The Optical Networking Area was awarded with a FPI (Formación de Personal Investigador) Fellowship from the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation (MICINN) to carry out a PhD Thesis associated to the Fundamental Research Project “Design and evaluation of intelligent optical networks based on hybrid nodes with Ethernet and wavelength switching” (DORADO).
- The Optical Networking Area has been recognized as Research Group (Emerging modality) by the Catalan Government (Generalitat de Catalunya) within the period 2009-2013 (2009 SGR 1438).
- Carolina Pinart obtained the Best PhD Dissertation Prize in Telecommunications Networks and Services awarded by the Spanish Association of Telecommunications Engineers (COIT/AEIT) in 2006.
- Ramon Casellas obtained in 2006 a Torres Quevedo Research Grant from the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation with the reference PTQ05-02-02932 G62616586. The same researcher has renewed the Grant in 2007 and 2008.
- Carolina Pinart obtained a Post-Doc Fellowship by the Japan Association for the Promotion of Science in 2006.
- Ricardo Martínez and Carolina Pinart obtained a travel grant by the COST Action 270 to perform a Short-Term Scientific Mission in 2005.
- Carolina Pinart obtained a Graduate Prize of the Fundació Agrupació Mútua in 2003.
